Set another plate at the dinner table. I have another friend who's been bitten by the blog bug. "Topaz Butterfly", pull up a chair and dig in; no ceremony here, make yourself at home. Elbows on the table is encouraged.

Next time you're bringing some chicken enchilladas for everyone!

Everyone, check out her site! It's on blogspot, so it's probably much more reliable than tblog!!

I have a new pet. Well, not that I've had a pet of my own in many years. It's a young gecko. Sex undetermined. A coworker found it resting in a cardboard box on her desk last week. Quite a mystery for me since geckos are not native to TN. I'll have to make some arrangements for larger living quarters for it this week. Any ideas for a name?

Is It Just Me or Is It Cold Out Here?

2 Penguins are standing on an iceberg and one says to the other "You look like you're wearing a tuxedo."

The other penguin responds "What makes you so sure I'm not?"

Ok, so penguin humor isn't quite ..well...humorous, but there's not much to work with. The other night I went out to watch the film "March of the Penguins". It's a documentary done by National Geographic and narrated by Morgan Freeman. Yes, I was thinking the same thing; "Oh great, another movie where Freeman narrates and makes subtle philosophical methaphors a la Shawshank Redemption and Million Dollar Baby."
Not so this time. He basically told the facts of the story.
The film's purpose was to document the penguins' long and difficult breeding season in Antarctica. Emperor penguins, very large (as far as penguins go) and very interesting birds.

I wanted to go into detail about how it all goes down but just rent the movie when it goes to dvd. I will say that I am so amazed how those birds, not just survive, but overcome the harsh climate over the span of 8 months just to bring forth one offspring. How they bond as a pair and are able to recognize their mate in a sea of identical tuxedo wearing birds is impressive! When you see something like that you wonder what is behind it all? Is this just all genetic driven behavior that randomly "shook out in the wash" over millions of years? Or is this genetic driven behavior so specifically engineered that only a higher power could have designed it?

I Like Potatoes
07.20.05 (8:15 pm)   [edit]

I like potatoes. Sometimes it's good to just be random.

I can't get a Modest Mouse song out of my head "Blame It On the Tetons"

Those 2 things have nothing in common.

I am really craving a big rib eye steak though. And that DOES go with potatoes.

"I Gotta Kill That Boy....

...I just gotta..."

I never thought that my weekend would begin with me talking about Dobie Gillis at the office last friday. But that's where it started. Sometimes I wish there was a camera I could turn to and shoot a goofy glance while making some sort of commentary on the particular day's events.

Some of the "older" women in the office were amused and somewhat bewildered by the fact that I: A) Had any knowledge of The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis and the crazy reality that is Maynard G. Krebbs and B)Had such a rich interest in those wonderful TVLAND shows of yesteryear. Always keep them guessing. The coworkers that is. Two weeks ago I broke down the stereotypical wall of one "coworkette" when I laid my bluegrass knowledge on her. "You're too young to listen to bluegrass...by at least 25 years!" she said.
Which brings me to the reason I am writing this entry tonight. Last night I got to see Tim O'Brien http://www.timobrien.net/ perform. He had recently been to the "Willie and Dillie" ballpark concert of Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan. Afterwards he got an idea for a song. He wondered, "For so long Dylan was the elected and accepted voice of the people...an entire generation; which was very confusing...especially to Bob! (Probably due to all the drugs?) but he eventually faded out of the limelight, for the most part." O'Brien wondered what would Dylan say today after being so weary of being the expected voice for the people?

The basic message of the song was that "he is just a guitar player singing some songs" And that he can't always live up to the expectations. Or, as O'Brien put it:
"Even the best guys in baseball hit it once in a while."

So I thought about that for a bit. Then I slapped myself for dragging me into such a blogger's slump the last few months. I want each entry to have something unique and worthwhile in it. But this ain't rocket science; nor is it a work of art. It's a blog. I'm its steward. By the way, I was looking into the camera while I said that.
So it's time to go find my own statue of "The Thinker" and come up with some ideas.....homeruns or sac flies...or strikeouts....
